Premiering The Mourning Dance by Alireza Motevaseli — SDSO, 2023
On April 26, 2023, the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Delta David Gier (SDSO) presented The Mourning Dance (for chamber orchestra) by Iranian composer Alireza Motevaseli (b. 1992) as part of its Bridging Cultures concert series. The performance took place at the Avera Prairie Center in Huron, South Dakota, showcasing the orchestra’s ongoing mission to connect cultures through music.
The work reflects Motevaseli’s ability to blend contemporary musical language with deep emotional resonance, paying tribute to those who sacrificed their lives to get back freedom.
